Key Swift CSCF v2026 updates: what to prepare for?

Swift continues to strengthen security requirements and build a more resilient environment for financial operations. As part of this effort, the Customer Security Controls Framework (CSCF) is continuously evolving.

We have analyzed the key changes introduced in CSCF v2026, as well as the most common vulnerabilities identified during independent assessments of banking infrastructures. Below are the controls that require particular attention in preparation for the upcoming independent assessment:

🔹 1. Securing Back-Office Data Flows
Control 2.4 “Back Office Data Flow Security” has officially moved from advisory to mandatory. This means that securing data flows between your Swift interface and internal banking systems (back office) is now a critical compliance requirement. Appendix H of CSCF v2026 provides detailed minimum requirements for successful assessment.

🔹 2. Updates to Cryptographic Standards
The Guidance and Best Practices for Cryptography has been significantly revised. Updates focus on the use of modern encryption algorithms and strengthening key management processes to address current cyber threats.

🔹 3. Enhanced MFA Requirements
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) requirements have become more detailed and stringent. The scope of scenarios where MFA is mandatory has been expanded, along with clearer technical criteria for authentication factors to reduce the risk of bypass.
Special attention should be paid to mandatory MFA usage for firewall administration and for Left and Right Security Officers (LSO/RSO).

What does this mean for your business?
Implementing these changes requires time for technical adjustments and updates to internal documentation. We recommend reviewing your current architecture and security controls as early as possible.
