Ukraine’s Accession to SEPA as the Next Step in the European Integration of the Financial Sector

The accession of Ukraine to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) will mark the next step in the European integration of the financial sector.

Ukraine has already developed an important technological milestone: in 2023, the NBU electronic payment system has switched to the new generation SEP-4 based on the international standard ISO 20022. This has become a key technological change for the future integration of Ukraine to SEPA.

Why is this important for Ukrainian banks and their customers?

🔹 More convenient cross-border euro payments – integration with the European payment infrastructure is expected to simplify payments between Ukraine and EU countries.
🔹 Faster and more transparent payments – modern payment standards and processes enable more predictable transaction processing and improved payment tracking.
🔹 Alignment with European standards – for banks, this means an opportunity to develop payment services in line with the requirements and practices of the European financial market.
🔹 New opportunities for businesses and individuals – simpler payments with European partners, customers, and counterparties can become an important driver of Ukraine’s further economic integration with the EU.

At the same time, the transition to SEPA is not only about regulatory changes. For banks, it will also require the technological adaptation of payment infrastructure, systems, and integrations.

That is why ProFIX Group is already developing solutions in this area and is ready to support banks as a technology partner on their path toward European integration.
